Workforce Education Program

Vera Lloyd’s Workforce Education program is a campus-wide, trauma-informed effort that helps every resident build a realistic pathway to work, training, college, or military service while they are still in care.

For many youth in state care, the hardest part is not just surviving the present. It is stepping into the future without a plan, support system, or pathway to independence.

Vera Lloyd’s Workforce Education Program exists to change that.

This campus-wide, trauma-informed program helps residents move from healing and stabilization into practical next steps for adult life. Through career assessments, one-on-one coaching, paid work experience, technical exposure, life-skills training, and community partnerships, Workforce Education equips youth with the tools they need to pursue a career, higher education, job training, or military service.

At Vera Lloyd, our goal is simple: every young person should leave campus with a clear direction for what comes next.

What We Do

Workforce Education is a campus-wide, trauma-informed program that prepares every resident for life after care.

Career Planning:
Youth complete career assessments and work one-on-one with a coordinator to map out realistic next steps—college, job training, military, or employment.

Education & Credentials:
Residents work toward a diploma or GED, with access to job training and stackable credentials that lead to real careers.

Paid Work Experience:
Through the Campus Work Program, youth earn income, build job skills, and learn responsibility in a supervised setting.

Real-World Exposure:
Residents explore careers through guest speakers, college visits, job shadowing, and hands-on training—including welding, electrical, and other skilled trades.

Life Skills & Financial Literacy:  Youth learn how to manage money, open bank accounts, save, and prepare for independent living.
