TBRI Caregiver Training Module 8.2

TBRI® Correcting Principles – Responsive Strategies Part 2

In Module 8, parents will explore the TBRI® Correcting Principles with a focus on Responsive Strategies—practical tools caregivers can use when challenging behaviors occur. Parents will learn how to “set the bar” by establishing realistic expectations based on a child’s history, needs, current circumstances, and level of felt-safety. The module introduces the IDEAL Response and the Levels of Response, helping parents respond to behavior in ways that balance structure and nurture, promote regulation, preserve connection, and avoid shame or unnecessary power struggles. Parents will learn how to match their response to the intensity of a child’s behavior, support regulation during difficult moments, and provide opportunities to practice more appropriate behaviors. The module also explores rupture and repair, emphasizing that mistakes are inevitable and that repairing relational ruptures can strengthen trust and teach children that they remain valued and loved even during challenging moments.
