Vera Lloyd provides healing and support for youth through residential care, therapy, and family training programs, helping them build brighter futures.
Vera Lloyd Presbyterian Family Services has a vision for children, youth and families to have the resources they need to be successful. Dedicated staff carry out this mission every day through comprehensive services available to youth who live at the organization’s residential homes in Monticello, Arkansas as well as foster and adoptive parents.
For many youth, their time at Vera Lloyd is the only stable family environment they have experienced. In one example, a 15-year-old girl who had been exposed to drugs and was using had come to Vera Lloyd and earned the best grades of her life at the on-campus school. Thankfully, she is no longer using, has reunited with her parents, and is now attending college. Megan, another one of our alums, lived at Vera Lloyd for six months when she was 14 years old. She says: “I feel so happy that I got the chance to be a part of a wonderful place called Vera Lloyd. It helped me value my family and my future.”
Vera Lloyd contracts with the State of Arkansas to provide a safe place for youth in need through residential living and therapeutic group home. In the past we offered emergency shelter and respite care programs, however, we no longer offer these.
The organization provides the only Presbyterian children and family residential homes in Arkansas and northern Louisiana. We are accredited through the Council on Accreditation and maintain a commitment to excellence through its Continuous Quality Improvement Program. We are one of the first childcare facilities in the state to use the Texas Christian University Institute of Child Development Trust-based Relational Intervention model of care, which incorporates recent neuroscience research to help children heal from trauma.
Every year, we improve the lives of close to 100 boys and girls, ages 6 to 21, from all areas of Arkansas. We are also working to equip foster and adoptive parents through the Resource Parent Training Program.
I spent my teen-aged years at Vera Lloyd. I am 40 years old now. It… was life changing! I will forever hold this home and all the employees in my heart forever!
This is an outstanding organization and incredible, life-changing ministry is happening every day on this campus. Lives are being transformed and youth and children are experiencing healing and are given love and hope for the future.
I’m excited to see how the Lord works within our girls at Vera Lloyd. I spend a lot of time with them and can see how their lives are changing – how the hurt turns to healing, even in the smallest amounts.
Success stories are numerous when hearing how lives have been changed through simple acts of God’s love toward these young people, given by caring members of Presbyterian congregations throughout our presbytery and an excellent staff of house parents, teachers, counselors, administrators and many others who serve at Vera Lloyd.
I cannot fathom what those kids have been through, and yet at Vera Lloyd, they mature and change because of the stability, the support, the love and the education/experiences they have on that campus.
The influence of life at Vera Lloyd really does last for a lifetime.
